on Stellar Glimmer

When
the first stellar glimmer materializes high above the sagebrush, it is as if a
hole has been punctured in my earth-boundedness. Finally, my mind can leap through
that pinprick into space, where my origins truly began.
Origin-of-the-universe
theories usually describe the condensation of great masses of hydrogen twenty
billion years ago, resulting in an explosion that created, in a split second,
all the known elements of the universe. Primary among these elements were hydrogen
and some helium. Hydrogen today makes up 99 percent of the matter everywhere.
In theory,
then, we are all - all living and inanimate things - derived from a common source...that
original fantastic catastrophe. All the elements in my body can trace their ancestry
back to the beginning of stars. This important fact ought to forge a sense of
connection in each and every one of us.
