At the root of the ozone depletion problem is the ever-increasing human population. More and more people are consuming the Earth's resources, producing garbage, and driving cars emitting gases that damage the ozone layer. Add the population increase to rising sea levels and the result is that there is less land to go around. Concurrently, million of people all over the world become displaced as coastal cities flood. Virulent diseases emerge in temperate zones with increased global temperatures. 35 years ago, one third of the world's population was lived in cities, according to the World Resources Institute. By 2025, more people will live in cities than lived on the entire Earth ten years ago. Experts estimate that 10-20 billion more people will be on Earth by 2100.
